Creative Wedding Cake Toppers

Cake toppers are a personal touch that really adds that extra element to your reception. Up until a few years ago, your only options were the traditional bride and groom in black and white.
Luckily, now we have a lot of choices especially for ethnic brides who are looking for something to represent their personal style.
I think I am leaning toward monograms and Justcaketoppers.com has a lot to choose from
They also have a few ethnic wedding cake toppers, like the one featured below.

Another great resource Krishna Sandhu. who I discoverd on etsy. Her shop has some really lovely hand made cake-toppers, and have not stopped forwarding the link to friends since.
Here are a few of her creations:

Unique Wedding Invitation : Cadbury anyone?

I saw this and just thought it was the cutest and most original invite I had seen in a long time.

Inspiration Board: Lovebirds

One of the initial stresses about becoming a bride to be is finding the right way to introduce the two families to each other. In our case, I had met a lot of Mr. Right's family, but he had not met any of mine.

So we are hosting a small meet and greet / engagement luncheon in a few weeks. It'll be a greaty way for everyone to meet each other and start celebrating our engagement.

Keeping in mind the setting, and the guests I started browsing through some images online to look for decorating ideas and have absolutley fallen in love with the images of lovebirds I have been seeing. The graphic can be done in many many ways, stationary, cards the list goes on but I think it's a great visual for an engagement cake.

Designer Spotlight : Fahad Hussayn

As much as I love Indian clothing - I have to admit that I am pretty naive to the actual designers. I am of the - If I like it - I buy it kind. But now that I'm looking for ideas for the countless number of events that a desi wedding has (here's a quick rundown : engagement, lady sangeet, mehndi-night,maya, wedding and finally the reception) and things for the rest of the bridal party to wear I have decided to do a little investigation.

As I discover new designers - I will try and do a small post on each one and hopefully end up with a small directory by the time I am finished with this process.

My First Designer Spotlight: Fahad Hussayn

He designs both traditional and western, but for this post I have chosen a few "traditional" outfits to showcase his amazing work.

I'll let the images speak for themselves. I am not sure what I want in a dress, but I really like the non-red color choices that he presents for brides.

And . . . If you are like me, and would like to see more of his amazing work, check out his facebook page here.

Mark Your Calendars: Lakme Fashion Week

When you are an american dulhun, the bad news is that the amount of resources availble to you is quite limited. Especially in the form of inspiration for your wedding dress. The traditonal bride show doesn't quite work in our case.

The good news is that most indian fashion designers still design a lot of traditional clothing, in the forms of sari's, lenghas' and suits. Even when they design more western clothing, the colors and fabris they use can still be "inspirational".

And one of my favorite place to browse all the latest indian garb is at the Lakme Fashion Week and luckily it is set to debut it's 10th year this September 18th - 22nd.

So mark your calendars if your interested in new designs for your wedding dress, or maybe just interested in seeing what they have cooking :)
